Log cams and struggle in our town

The setting

Morning on the Obi Obi

The Obi Obi Creek flows through the center of our town, Maleny, and is home to a thriving colony of Platypus. (Platypus movie-6.5mb)

The struggle.

The proposed construction of a National Chain Supermarket on the banks of the creek and above the Platypus burrows.

..struggle of the Maleny community to protect the town's character and environment from a significant, and inappropriate, Woolworths supermarket development on the bank of the Obi Obi Creek.

During this struggle some protesters near the toilet block noticed some logs on the roof ....

On closer inspection, these logs had THREE SPY CAMS bolted, strapped and glued to them and were connected to an office in the pub next door!!!

Maleny Voice documents the whole saga

Maleny Voice is the excellent online documentation of the whole experience. Sadly it seems the wishes of the majority of the community will be dashed and the Supermarket will be built. Lazy planners, wealthy developers, gutless politicians and log cam coppers will see this supermarket imposed on us and the Platypus..... or just maybe it wont.

Yet another example of the all too common practice of destroying nature for commercial gain...

I doubt it will help, but is there anything the WWF can do about it? I assume they're already aware of the project though, so if there was they'd be on it by now.

Fingers crossed!

There is a last minute presentation to the Minister for the Environment and if that fails, the only other avenue is personing the barricades and disruption.
